Embrace and Engage in the Culture of Your Workplace

Socializing with co-workers and the reasons to do it.

If your supervisor ever approaches you and tells you that do not socialize with your colleagues, he or she is really saying that it would be beneficial if you spent some time investing in building interpersonal relationships.

It is believed that in a collegial environment conflicts are more easily managed, morale is strengthened, and productivity soars.  

When you work with people whose abilities you respect and admire the end result is satisfaction.  It is even more satisfying when you work with people you like and trust.  
 
An employee’s success in the workplace does not only depend on their technical proficiency, but also on the ability to understand the organization’s culture and work effectively within it to exercise influence and get things done. 

If your an employee who does not like to socialize with fellow employees after work you have to be willing to make a few compromises here and there. 

If you haven’t been going out to socializing events with your co-workers, then they probably have gotten the message that you would prefer not to join them. 

Your co-workers will be doubly appreciative if you do decide to join them. 

Once you are at a social outing with your colleagues you should mention in a humorous way your reasons that you did not join them before.
