Workplace safety

On Christmas Eve in Toronto four men were killed. These men fell 13 storeys to their death when the scaffold they were working on snapped.
Toronto police reported that although the men were wearing body harnesses, three of the men’s harnesses were not using a lanyard to fix the harness to a solid structure.
"The harness without a lanyard, even one with a lanyard but not attached, if it's not affixed to anything it's useless," said Det. Kevin Sedore.
As a result of the Christmas Eve accident 41 occupational health and safety inspectors will be hired in Ontario.
Another initiative that the government will be undertaking is job site inspections to see that safety standards are being met and followed.
