Body art at the workplace

What do people have to say about tattoos in the workplace?
Are tattoos acceptable in the workplace?  Image consultant Wendy Lee says that it depends on the industry you are employed in.

For those who work in advertising, media and entertainment having a tattoo is okay, but for those employed in finance, law, and consulting tattoos are not okay.

The main concern around tattoos is it causes clients to judge an employee negatively and makes them question that employee’s abilities. Not only is the employee under fire, but the image of the organization as well.

Tattoos have a social stigma attached to them, states Lee.  Some employers view tattoos as a sign of immaturity.  The best way to go about tattoos is to cover them or get them in areas that can be covered up by clothes.

Abide by the company’s image when it comes to revealing your tattoos or just cover them up during work hours.
