Driving and dialing on the rise: Study

Smart phone usage has increased, making it even more easier to stay connected to the office at the same time making driving dangerous.

Based on a survey done by CareerBuilder approximately 54% of workers say they use their phones while driving.  

Industry comparison of who used the phone the most while driving:

-    66% of sales workers

-    59% of professional and business workers

-    50% of health care workers.

Main Findings:

  • Many of the respondents admitted that it was dangerous to be on their phones while driving but felt pressured to do so.  
  • 20% of workers say they check their phones every time it vibrates or beeps.
  • 18% of workers said it is mandatory for their organization to have the ability to contact them after work hours.
  • 14% due to the economic recession they feel the need to have contact with their workplace all the time. 
  • 21% of employees say they check their phones to see what is happening in the office anywhere and everywhere including during a meal, on vacation, in the bathroom, in bed, during a date, and at church.
